Music Press

The beginning of music was in the 1920s when 'Melody Maker' was first published it was famous for covering the jazz scene which was extremely popular in that era. In 1936 billboards published the first music charts, with airplays and record sales charts. NME was produced in the 50's it was seen as being youthful and a change from the other competition at that time. NME featured regular artists, interviews and record sales. During the 60's and 70's Melody Maker and NME was the only source to the public which had uptodate sources on music. In the 80's and 90's magazines had tried to break away from just being a all genre focus and wanted to be niche by just having one genre, KERRANG! had done this by focusing on Rock. Then there was Mixmag which concentrated on Dance and Club music, another called The Source explored Hip Hop and Rap, then finallt there was CLassic Rock which was focusing on old rock band and rock music. When it came to the 00's music magazine were changing how they marketed their brand, for instance with the internet and technology which was becoming increasingly popular with the people. This meant that distrubters started using different media platforms not just selling magazines, this meant that older magazines would now fall behind as they stuck to just selling magazines slowly Melody Maker and Smash Hits loss readership and folded.
