This is a contents page, there are typical conventions that give a way that this is the contents page, for example the numbered images and text, this is typical because it lets the reader know where in the magazine the certain features are. They have tried to keep to some kind of colour scheme they have used Black,Green,White and Pink, typically there is usally three colours that are used in a magazine, maybe this magazine is trying to be unique and not trying to stick to the norms of a contents page. Everything has been sectioned in a box layout this shows that they have tried to keep and order to there magazine so that it doesn’t look messy or cluttered, this will have a positive effect on the readers. They have connected the contents title and the issue together, this could be that they have a lot to put on this page and they cant afford to waste space anywhere. There is an equal balance between images and text, this is a good thing because then it doesn’t look like they are favouring one over the other.
They have gone for a more recognisable contents page they have used all of the typical conventions for a contents page there is less originality in this contents page then the others I have looked at. The Masthead is linking in with the other Masthead lower down the page, it has a shattered effect and almost dirty it isn’t a clean colour, I think they have used this to represent the genre of music that they are featuring in this magazine. They haven’t used a main image for the whole of the page but they have covered half of the page with one, his clothes and scenery again reinforces the genre of the magazine that is Rock/Heavy Metal. The colour yellow that they have used almost breaks up the white and black that they have used in their colour scheme, it makes them not seem as the very hard-core rock there is, it gives them more of a gentle touch. They have gone for a more image heavy approach which is good because then their readers don’t feel like they have to read masses and masses of text to get the information they need they have simply just put clear cut points. With the sub headings they have used yellow for the text and a black background, these are contrasting colours which makes it stand out so it jumps out to the readers.
This is a contrast of the two Contents pages above, there is a negative tone to the colours they use black, white and grey, these colours are stereotypically used to create a serious tone, this could possibly be a running theme throughout the magazine. The Masthead ‘Contents’ has been split into three instead of being all on the same line together, this could be because they don’t want to fit into the norms of a magazine, they want to be unique, perhaps this will represent their genre of music which could be unique and orignal. They have gone for a conventunally contents feature, they have labelled it ‘Features’ and have got numbers, they have only put a selected amount of features on to the contents feature, they also are features that are later on in the magazine such as page ‘99’ this means that they have to skim through the magazine to find it and they could stumble across on a feature that they wouldn’t normally want to read but end up reading it. The model position is interesting, it is very seductive which Is a key technique used on magazines of putting sex appeal onto their magazine which will interest both men and women, women want to look like them and men like to look at women. Also she is making a ‘V’ shape with her legs which is the logo of the magazine ‘Vibe’. There is very little amount of text which suggests that they know their target audience and they know that they don’t want to being reading accesive amount of texts and would prefer to look at images and minuimal amount of reading only the key points.
This is different to the two of the contents pages above, they have gone for a more uncontrolable layout this could be symbolising the genre of the music that it cant be controlled by anyone. There is no real colour scheme, but they have predominantly used the colour Pink, this is showing their demographic which would be teenage girls because stereotypically they are linked with the colour Pink. They have predominalty used more images then text, as like the first contents page they know their audience and know they would rather see images then loads of text heavy features. They also feature a lot of special offers and pugs on there contents page, this is also draggin the reader in and will make them read for the freebies, and then by that happening the will read the other articles in the magazine. The masthead reads, “inside your MAG...” this is showing that they want to get their readers involved and that they are the most important part of their magazine, the elpsis is showing almost tension to what the features are for them. The Abbrevation shows that they are trying to appeal to their demographic.
