Analysis for my content pages and analysis of researched contemt pages

I’m a going to do this despite that I still have used much more text in comparison to the front cover as I felt the front cover is needed to attract the reader so should be more about the image and colours rather than text. But I feel the contents is needed to be more text heavy as it needs to inform the reader who is most likely already enticed to the magazine on what is inside and what the features are, also the head teachers message is bound to be text heavy because of the fact he is important and students need to know what he has to say about the school.

Want to use the conventional layout as although I want a contemporary feel to my school magazine, I feel that this is the easiest way to lay it out for readers. Also my target demographic/audience for my magazine will have want to find out things easy and quickly to get the information that they want and not have to spend ages and lots of time reading through tons of text, it is easier to keep it simple by numbering and putting a short sentence about the feature.
-
I’m going to also use similar colours in my contents page to my front cover. This is to create a pattern and makes it look like I have a colour scheme and not just plucked random colours which will make it seem I have not taken care or effort on the CP, to the reader that will be welcoming to repeating audiences but also to new audiences.

In my contents, similarly to the front cover, for the titles I will use “sanserif” for my titles and “Calibri” for my text I have explained why in my front cover ideas. Also I feel again that it will create familiarity and it will be then distinctive to the school by doing this consistency with font, colours and such is important in all magazines to make the magazine seem more independent from other magazines.
For my contents page I am going to use only used two images but one is the background and one is a rather large image, this is to take away the fact that there is a lot more text on this then the front page. I also didn’t want my magazine to start looking like it as all about the images and not about text, I feel that I have got a good balance with the two.
First Contents Page

They have not made what will feature in the magazine clear at all for the reader, they have listed topics at all. The only way I believe that they have shown what will feature are the short factual information next to the images, for example ‘A bit of history…’ is the title then has 3 images next to it. A content part is needed because it will cause confusion to the reader.

A positive about this contents page is that they have used a good variety of images, they show children doing school work and what goes on in a classroom, also showing results and sporting achievements which shows that the school is successful in academic and also sporting activities. The interesting point about these pictures are that they all have joyful faces this is showing that students are positive about school and want to be there, which comes across to the reader that this is a good school and if it’s a parent they should send there child here.
-
The colour scheme is interesting, because they have used the colours from their logo (green and white) this makes it distinctive to them and makes it also personal.
-
The structure has a professional look, they have used a boxed layout so that it doesn’t look messy and to make it seem organized. Although, in my opinion they have put to much information and too many images on the two pages, it is too cramp and they have tried to fit to much in which is unnecessary as they could of put the content in a list, or could of spread it out over the magazine.
-
On the second magazines contents page there is not many similar codes and conventions to what a popular magazine would have or really any magazine would have on their contents page. They have missed out on a few crucial conventions, for example an contents feature of what topics are in the magazine.
Second contents page
-
They have put on a presidents message, which is a message from the president of the school this will feature a message addressing the reader. A criticism of this would be that it is rather long and takes up a whole page of the two paged contents page, this could put off readers as it is a big chunk of text and people don’t want to read that amount of text when reading magazines they want brief information that get straight to the point. The fact that it is a whole page long means that maybe some features that could have been put on their missed out and maybe they were important features but the president message had to go onto the contents page.
-
They have used a typical convention of a content page which is the list of what the contents is inside. They have structured this well because it is clear and simply to see there are no confusing fonts or colours. They have also put the number of the page that the specific topic that s next to it on, this makes it easier for the reader as they don’t have to go looking through the magazine themselves they can go straight to the contents page.
-
They have used a very basic and bland colour scheme, this could be showing that there type of audience they want to read the magazine is not the children but teachers, parents and parents who are inquiry about sending their child and or children to school there.
-
They have used anchorage for this image, they have explained what the picture is and what is happening in the image.
-
The first magazine contents page does use a few codes and conventions to what a typical magazine contents page would have, on the other hand they have used features that would not necessarily be put onto a magazine and the positioning and structure is not the norm on a standard contents page.
