First colour choice

This was my initial choice of colour scheme for my magazine, the reasons why I have chosen these particular colours is because they’re all from the Thomas Bennett logo, the school I will be doing my magazine on. By using the colours from their logos it makes it more distinctive and separates itself from the other school magazine who don’t use their logo colours, it makes it original. This is also good for getting readers to read and buy the magazine every week as they become familiar with the colours, that familiarity is comforting and reassuring and this could be what the audience are looking for, from their magazine that read, some sort of repetition even if it is just the colours that I use within the magazine over and over again. The way that they have used the blue and white to complement each other, is the exact way that I will be using when creating my magazine and creating the masthead as it projects the masthead and stands out, while still using their logo colours.

Second colour choice

This is my other choice of colours; these are the primary colours, red, yellow and blue. The reasons why this is an option is because they are bright and exciting colours that explode off the page and are truly eye catching, they would appeal greatly to my younger target audience because of the fact they’re bright, it almost symbolises fun and youth. On the other hand this could be a problem and hinder my magazine due to the fact it is meant to have some type of sophistication and professionalism, which these colours do clearly not show, they may be to youthful even though my demographic is for young and older teenagers. This would appeal to the younger target demographic, but then it would not to the older target audience, they will see it as a child’s magazine and is only being aimed at them, which is not the case because of the content I have put on the CP and FC, although that doesn’t matter if the initial opinion is that it looks childish because of the appearance with the bright eccentric colours.
In conclusion I believe that I will choose the first option of colours, purely down to the fact that I want my magazine not only to look youthful and contemporary but I also want some sort of sophistication and professional look rather than all about looking youthful.

Title fonts

Sans Serif:

This is the softer of the two, what I mean by softer is that it is more commonly know in magazines such as Hello, Heat etc. gossip magazine that concentrate more on images and short quick information and not masses of text and hardly any images. I would sway towards using this because of the fact my magazine is not going to targeting the audiences that serif would, my target demographic are teenagers, so are more suited to sans serif font.

Serif:

This is a lot different to sans serif, although the appearance is hard to see the differences; in the way and places that serif is used is completely the opposite of sans serif. What I mean by this is that serif is normally used in broadsheet newspapers such as the telegraph etc. so this will not fit in my magazine, although it could fit in when I mention the head teachers message and features along those lines to symbolise the importance of the person or feature.

Text fonts

Calibri:

Calibri in my opinion and from other people I have asked is that is the easier of the two to read, because of the fact that it doesn’t have any curves or almost flicks that comic sans has. By asking people what they thought of the two fonts and the majority saying Calibri I am most likely going to have to go with that because if the majority can read a certain text then I am going to use that because there will be certain parts of the magazine where there might be a paragraph or two about features, I don’t want my audience to struggle to read the text it could put them off reading if they suffer.

Comic sans:

comic sans is just to childish, it looks like the type of font that features in a child’s magazine or comic, because of the curves, it almost symbolises the way a child would write, that is why they would use it in a child’s magazine to make it more personal to the child. But it cannot feature in a magazine with the demographic of young and older teenagers, even the younger teenage would not take to the childish font.
